What is Child Guardianship?

Boarding schools in the UK will insist that your child has a guardian who can offer a welcoming home at half-terms and at some weekends during term time. Our guardian families are expected to take a real interest in your child's school life and progress. Our guardians will attend parents' meetings and events and liaise regularly with the school staff who look after your child during the term.

Why is Guardianship important?

Sending your child to school abroad is a big step but our guardianship service brings you peace of mind. We remain responsible for your child throughout his or her stay in the UK, remain in constant touch with both the guardian family and your child and keep you regularly informed of progress.

We have 20 years' experience in placing students with safe and loving families and provides an outstanding level of personal care. Our team looks after children aged 8 to 18, who come from all parts of the world, including Japan, Korea, Russia, Africa and Europe.

What can you expect from this service:

1. To find the right family to offer your child a safe and happy home

2. Help you find the right school and advise on holiday courses and English language support

3. Keep in close touch with your child, the guardian family and the school to monitor academic progress and general welfare

4. Look after all travel arrangements, passport and visa formalities

5. Ensure that your child is met on arrival in the UK and escorted to and from school at the beginning and end of term

6. Assist with choice of sixth form options, university choices and careers

7. Arrange attendance at parent-teacher meetings and school events

8. Arrange payment of school fees and manage your child's pocket money

9. Arrange purchase of school uniform and other clothes, birthday presents and authorised items on your behalf, as well as payment for trips

Finding the right family

Finding each child an individual guardianship family that is right for them is one of the most important tasks. Parents want to feel secure in the knowledge that their child is safe and cared-for and we work hard to ensure all our families meet these requirements. We expect our families to offer the best possible care and a home-from-home, as well as plenty of opportunity for your child to make the most of life in the UK.

Why our families are the best

1. We take the task of finding families very seriously and there are certain key requirements we look for in each one:

2. Sympathy for overseas students in the UK

3. A knowledge of independent education

4. A genuine interest in the progress and welfare of the child

5. A comfortable and welcoming home with a separate room for the child

6. A willingness to accommodate and understand the child's culture or religion

What kind of family?

1. Your child's needs are our first priority. When finding a family we take the time to get to know the student, which means thinking about his or her personality and individual needs as well as hobbies, interests and preferences.

2. A senior member of our department visits all prospective families in their homes. We take up professional and personal references and carefully check the background of every family to ensure that your child will be safe and happy in their care.

3. Once all our checks are complete, we always arrange a trial weekend to ensure that your child is happy in the family's company before finalising any arrangements.

We offer you the peace of mind which comes with the knowledge that the best possible arrangements are in place. Once your child is under our guardianship you can relax and leave everything to us. Our dedicated and experienced guardianship team will carefully select a suitable guardian family who will welcome your child into their home at weekends and half-terms. We work closely with you, your child, the school and guardian family to ensure that your child is given every support and encouragement and enjoys a safe, happy and successful stay in the UK. Our services are flexible, enabling you to select the one which best meets the needs of your child.

As educational consultants, our partners are also in a position to speak with schools at the highest level about your child's progress, academically and socially.
